Use Matterport Deep Links

Did you know that you can navigate to ANY spot in a Matterport Space and obtain a custom link that will take you right back to that very spot? While this tool isn’t new, this cool “deep link” tool doesn’t seem to get the credit it deserves.

The process of generating a “deep link” URL is easy:

  1. Load up a Matterport Space and navigate to the exact point you want to come back to.
Note that this link will retain the exact position in the Space and the exact camera position/angle….but does not store your current “zoom” setting.
  2. When you’re all set, simply press the “U” key on your keyboard. (  )
Sorry tablet users…you’ll need to be on a desktop-ish device to get this to work.
  3. Notice the small black bar that appears at the top/left of your Space

    Copy this (long) URL.

  4. Create a new Model
Now, simply paste this big hairy URL straight in as your “Matterport URL”, inside WP3D Models.

Using this method you’ll continue to be able to use all of the other options within WP3D, just like you’re used to…but the Model will direct visitors to the very spot you selected (in Step 1) when the Space loads.

Pro Tip: You might consider adding multiple Models of the same Space, using different “deep linked” starting points.  This way you can use the nice/clean URLs generated from WP3D (on your domain) and leverage the flexibility of pointing visitors to very specific places in your scans.
